"Women are Becoming 'Lakhpati Didis' through Training from Surya Foundation"
At the Surya Foundation's sewing skill center in Singwari, Madhya Pradesh, women are achieving self-reliance and carving out new identities through self-employment. Recently, these women received an order to make 1,000 lowers from Gwalior. This is just one example of the opportunities created by the Surya Foundation, which operates 20 similar sewing centers across the country.
The Surya Foundation supports women's self-employment and self-reliance through various initiatives. Along with sewing centers, the foundation runs 20 sewing training centers, where 310 women receive daily training.
Additionally, the organization has established 179 self-help groups nationwide, connecting 2,000 women who have started various self-employment projects with the group's assistance.
Surya Foundation organizes training camps for women, offering training in a variety of self-employment skills. In handicraft training alone, 220 women have learned jewelry making, embroidery, and basket weaving. Many women have also started small-scale industries, including:
75 women making washing powder
40 women making handwash and dishwashing soap
15 women working in handloom
60 women producing papad, pickles, snacks, and chocolates
In the past year, 11 women have earned the title of 'Lakhpati Didi,' achieving an annual income of over 1 lakh rupees through their businesses. For example:
Madhuri from Kashi, who specializes in sewing
Rekha and Chanchal from Meerut, who make cow dung cakes and papad
Bina from Uttarakhand, who makes bags
Komal, who makes chocolates
Amvati, who makes pots
Anita and Antarbai from Madhya Pradesh, who run a dairy business
Premlata from Haryana, who has started a shop
Nirmala, who makes bags
Shimla, who makes pickles
These women have not only become financially independent but have also provided support to their families. Surya Foundation ensures that the products made by these women are promoted and sold in the market. Under the guidance of Surya Foundation Chairman, Padmashree Jaiprakash Agarwal, all workers are dedicated to the mission of making more women self-reliant and self-respecting.
This year, the organization aims to create 100 more 'Lakhpati Didis'. Their resolution is: "Self-reliant women, empowered India."
